How does it feel when you have to count every single calorie you take? Do you guys get confused of shifting time for fiber and other diet menus every day?
Low residue diet may become one of the solution. This diet method is low in fiber and high in other dietary elements, that designed to reduce the frequency and volume of stools while prolonging intestinal transit time. People that do this diet are usually prepared for medical examination, or special cure. As we know, a diet high in fiber protects against constipation. Constipation and straining to move the bowels can increase pressure on the intestinal wall and lead to other conditions such as hemorrhoids and diverticulitis. On the contrary, diets low in fiber increase the risk of developing these conditions. So, here we are seeing the usage of this diet : reducing the bowel activity.
This diet method will be suitable for those who have problem of bowel inflammation, Crohn’s disease, diverticulitis or ulcerative colitis.
What about the food to be included? Well, because this is a low fiber diet, it is not recommended to have vegetables or fruits since they are rich source of fiber. Try to have milk, and other products like yogurt and cheese. A low residue diet also allows you to consume margarine, butter and various oils. Do not have whole grain breads and pastas, bran, seeds, or nuts.
