Vitamin D : One Of Cancer Police
Great News! The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition reported, an increased intake of vitamin D may decrease the risk of developing certain types of cancer. In the study, researchers followed 1, 179 post menopausal women in rural Nebraska. The women were divided into three groups, based on the amount of their vitamin D intake. One group took placebo pills, another group took a combination of calcium and vitamin D supplements, and final group took only vitamin D supplements.
What’s next? After four years of following the study participants, researchers found that the group that took a combination of calcium and vitamin D supplements decreased their risk of developing cancer by 60 percent. The group took between 1,400 and 1,500 mg of calcium and 1100 UI’s of vitamin D, about triple the recommended daily amount.
However, we have to know that some vitamins can cause adverse health effects when taken in large quantities. Check with a doctor before taking any kind of supplement, including vitamins before you go out and stock up on vitamin D.

Google ” Risk Assessment for Vitamin D ” and you will see a study by John N Hathcock, Andrew Shao, Reinhold Vieth and Robert Heaney showing no adverse events occur using Vitamin D3 Cholecalciferol, below 10,000iu/daily.
A careful reading of the text shows in fact that 40,000iu daily, for some while, is needed to cause trouble.
Google ” Contemporary Diagnosis and Treatment of Vitamin D-Related Disorders ” and you will link to a conference of Vitamin D researchers presenting the lastest evidence.
All the sessions are worth listening to but some are extremely complex, however the session on the safety of Vitamin D3 by Vieth Session 4: Vitamin D and Population Health (use the arrows by the slide preview to fast forward to slide 61 and if you are on limited broadband turn off the video, just listen while looking at the slides)

Well, the consumption of vitamins itself is according to our body condition. Besides, there are many evidence that taking too much vitamins will cause some negative effects to our health.
So, before we decide to consume vitamins, that would be better if we ask for our doctor to know what our body needs. That’s the rule of thumb :-)
